First show! Success!
Sean and I just finished our first show in Escondido (San Diego). I vaguely recall performing "Hazel and the Dragon" there last summer (although it possible I'm getting my libraries mixed up). We left pretty early (7AM) to be on the safe side. We got there roughly an hour before the show started. I love having that hour of set up. Thirty minutes almost feels too rushed. With an hour, I can catch my breath before we start the show.
The performance space was great. Very spacious and perfectly arranged (thank you Escondido!). We had our share of first show snags (this being our first performance of "Rex and Boots" in front of an audience). Since we sailed through the set up--I should have KNOWN something was going to happen! Sean and I were using the sound system that Patrick and I used last season, and really, I wish I had paid more attention to it's set up. We had a dickens of a time getting that thing to come online and stop giving us feedback.
The show itself was a laugh a minute. During rehearsals, we couldn't quite grasp the amount of gags and laughs that were built into the show (Patrick did chuckle a few times...but, no one really laughs when were slogging through blocking). Once we got in front of the kids and Wilberforce (the butler) started to cry--we had nothing but laughs.
A good start! I'm looking forward to Saturday.
Pics to come soon!
See you at the Library!
